Whakaaro | Reflections : Joslyn Faataui

Our Whakaaro | Reflections series share the thoughts and reflections of rangatahi, clients, and team members who co-create with Activate as we strive to build ethical changemaking into all facets of our work - from framing and messaging, to the production teams involved, to employing stakeholders and community members and more.

This reflection is brought to you by Joslyn Faataui, a talented young person who portrayed Candice’s encouraging and reliable best friend in our most recent rangatahi elections video, made in collaboration with Auckland Council.

Making Accessibility Happen through ImpactNarrative

“How do we get change? I think the way to do it is through the power of story. To persuade people that something really needs to change, we need to tell our stories.” - Deborah Russell, Labour MP for New Lynn.

Last week, our Founder and Creative Director, Jason Boberg, facilitated an ImpactNarrative workshop for the Access Alliance hui, an important gathering focused on ensuring accessibility for our whanau whaikaha (PWD) here in Aotearoa.

The event was attended by over sixty members of the disability community in Tāmaki, with speakers including organiser Áine Kelly-Costello, Deborah Russell MP, and Kristin Gillies.

This was a fantastic event to really build a stronger sense of community amongst attendees, but also created immediate impact, as community members took the stories they developed in the workshop straight to film, where they will form part of the crucial #AccessMatters campaign.
